Weary and Worn Out

Proverbs 30:1 says, "The man declares, I am weary, O God; I am weary, O God, and worn out." How many of us (especially us women) occasionally (read: always) feel worn out and weary? I started a Bible study last Monday with some ladies from campus ("Brave" by Angela Thomas) and it goes through the various struggles of a woman.

This week was the study on being worn out. I didn't think it had anything to do with me. I sleep in until 8 every morning, I have barely started my job and I don't really have a whole lot going on. I have lots of down time...I'm not worn out and I'm not weary. Well, think again. It's coming. Beginning August 1, I will be working at MBTS 30 hours a week, plus Olive Garden at least 3 nights a week/end. Luke will start his job at LifeWay in the next week or so, bringing with it 20 hours of him being away from home. Our schedules will conflict, I'm sure! School is going to start shortly after that. Luke will be taking 3 classes and I am taking one (or two, I haven't decided). The weariness...yeah, it's coming. I know it and now is the perfect time for me to prepare myself. It's a great thing the weariness study is the first week, because it's going to come in handy later!

Whenever you get worn down, what do you go to? I prefer ice cream...or cake...Oreo's are good also. Exercise I also like...running gives me energy and few moments to clear my head. I'm becoming better at it and it's a confidence booster...something I'm good at, something I look forward to. It's a good thing I'm running, because that food could catch up with me! But food and exercise are only temporary fixes. We all know that...but we still look to those things for support, for encouragement, for rest.

The great thing about God is that He already knows when we're worn down, weary, stressed, frazzled...whatever you want to call it. And we can tell Him when we're weary too (see Proverbs 30:1).  And the best thing? God doesn't get tired, He doesn't get stressed, you can't phase Him...HE has got it all together (something, unfortunately, we'll never have!). See Isaiah 40:28-31. "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Ahhhhhhh....take a breath, relax, because God's got it all under control. He will take the next step for you when you can't bear to move those legs...He will pick you up when you fall...and when you feel as though you can't take another blow, He'll be there right beside you. If we hope in the Lord, we soar on eagle's wings. No more weariness. Matthew 11:28 also says, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Not temporary rest, eternal rest.

I write this now so that in a month or two when I'm too busy to even think, I can come back and read this. And I can remember that I'm not doing this alone. My two jobs are a blessing, Luke's job is a blessing, being able to grow in knowledge through classes on campus is a blessing (for both of us). Never a hindrance and never something to complain about. If you feel worn out and weary - place your burdens on God. He will take care of them. Hope in Him and you, you will soar like an eagle!

KC Adventures

So I've decided that I'm not so good at blogging. I meant to do this at least a couple times a week...not once every two weeks. It's a very busy time in my life so I apologize! I'll try harder! I have decided to focus this blog post on more FUN things! It seems my past posts have been serious tear-jerkers and while I enjoy them...it's time for some fun! Luke and I (the dorks that we are) have created a short list of adventures we would like to embark on when we get to KC. My plan is to document all these adventures and share them with you. This list is just a few things we have found so far...I'm sure it will grow. And as I look over it...most of it seems centered around food and sports. Hrmmm...let's get started. Oh, by the way, these are in no particular order. 1. Kansas City Royals game. No, we are NOT going to disown the Cardinals! We will always be Cardinals fans. However, Royals games are CHEAP! They have BUCK nights and areas of the stadium that ar...

And So It Begins...

Well friends, it's finally time. You know, before about a week ago it was all talk. This moving business was just words coming out of our mouths. But now, it's real. Luke and I are both officially unemployed with no job prospects in sight. Boy, that's encouraging! There's a trailer in the driveway that already has quite a few boxes in it, with much more stuff to come in the next few days. We are moving out of our house on Tuesday (GIANT TEAR!) and then heading to KC one week after that. We've been planning this move for nearly a year and now that it's here...it's so surreal. I can't picture my furniture anywhere but my current bedroom, I can't imagine having to climb two flights of stairs to reach my front door, and I don't even want to think about the fact that I'm sharing a wall with someone. My car and I had a pep talk last night...with this trailer in front of the garage, I had to move her out. Last night was her last being protected f...

Clarity, Please?

Job hunting is never fun. Enough said. :) I just got home from my first job interview here in KC. And well, wasn't that interesting? I interviewed with a massage company...for (what I thought) a receptionist position. I got lost on the way there - but on a plus side I totally figured it out and got myself back on track (go me!). I had to drive literally through the city traffic to get there. I got off the interstate and proceed to, in my mind, the ghetto. It probably isn't though - I doubt I've ever been to a real ghetto. During the interview the lady tells me that we are in the ritzy part of town (uh, what?) and that customers will yell at me. Oh, and so will the therapists...I guess they think they run the place since they have a college degree. Um, I have a college degree. She also asked if I was familiar doing sales with a script. It appears that I have to call people and convince them to get a membership to this place. Okay....oh, and I make $8.50 an hour plus commis...
