One year later...

Next Thursday will be one year to the day that we loaded up our Harley trailer and headed for the big 'ol city. How time flies! Seriously, I can't believe it's been a year. In that year, we've had 3 different addresses...Luke's had two different jobs...we've traveled out of the US for the first time (well, for me)... What a crazy year it has been. I kind of wish I could go back in time and see myself on the day we moved. I definitely remember dealing with some nerves and some tears. It was a rough day, that's for sure. God has shown his provision and grace for us countless times over the past year. Let's take a look... #1 - Job at OG. Sure, sometimes I dislike my job at the OG. Especially when a little boy yells at me for not having Mountain Dew when his mom sits by with a smile on her face. Teach your children manners, people! But, I have met some really great people at Olive Garden. I have been given the opportunity to see how through Christ I am ...

Obedience

I attend a women's Bible study through my church on Tuesday nights. At 8:30pm...I'm generally super tired by the time I'm home at 10:30! Anyway, we are currently studying Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break by Kelly Minter (good stuff, by the way!). A couple weeks ago, we touched on obedience. In the book of Nehemiah, the wall is being rebuilt. The book begins with Nehemiah in Susa, which I have now learned is like a winter resort (maybe like a retirement neighborhood in Florida, if you will). Anyway, Nehemiah heard about the wall being destroyed and that his fellow Jews were in "great trouble and shame" (1:3). So, instead of saying "Oh, well that really stinks for them...I believe I'll continue enjoying my time here in Susa" he immediately becomes distraught for his people, weeping and mourning for their sake. Fast forward a little while, Nehemiah is back leading the people to rebuild the wall and he's met with lots of opposition - both intention...

Our Fifth Home in Three Years...

I realized that I never posted pictures of where we are living now. Originally upon moving to KC, we lived in an apartment on the seminary campus. I posted pics of that precious, miniature apartment when we first got here :) Oh, and how did we get to five homes? Well, the "bat" house we rented in Ramsey, the house we bought in Ramsey, upstairs apartment on campus, downstairs apartment on campus and number 5 - the duplex. Wow! In December (I know that was 5 months ago!), we couldn't take the 700 square foot apartment anymore! Well, maybe I couldn't take it but friends, coming from a 1400 square foot 3-bedroom, 2 bath home...with a giant kitchen, garage, shed, yard....ohhhhhh, I still miss our house SO much! :( Anyway, I refused to cook and/or bake in our apartment because the small kitchen stressed me out so much. And if you know me, you know that's a big deal because I love to bake!!!! BUT, back to the point, we moved into a duplex about 15 minutes campus righ...

Not Bummed

My last post was titled "Bummed." So this one is going to be the opposite of Bummed! Can we say stoked? Is that a little too 90's (maybe even 80's)? Most of you saw on my Facebook page last week that I got a job...now I didn't just get any teaching job. I feel like I got the most perfect position possible (but I haven't met the kids yet!). I will be teaching at Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton, Kansas. This is about a 40 minute drive for me, however there is quite a bit of road construction so I'm hoping a few minutes will come off once that's finished. The school is literally in a field. The middle school is a short walk through the parking lot (sound familiar?) and the elementary school is just right down the road. There's about 250 students in the high school. I will be teaching Computer Applications, Entrepreneurship, Digital Media and Desktop Publishing. I will also be sponsoring FBLA. I'm pretty pumped! There is another business tea...

...Bummed...

So, someone told me I didn't update my blog as much as they would like. I simply told them there isn't anything going on! But I suppose there is always something going on, right? In good news, Luke started a new job this week! He is now the Nike Brand Coordinator at Dick's Sporting Goods. This job is full-time with pretty good benefits for the both of us. Luke "has" to wear Nike products every day...this morning he left in mesh shorts, a t-shirt and tennis shoes. Only slightly jealous of how comfortable he gets to be! So far, he really likes it. He's busy all day long, gets to interact with customers and also has added responsibilities for all Nike apparel and shoes in the store. I think this position is going to suit his salesman side and his sporty side. His managers have also told him about the great opportunities to grow within the company, so maybe this could turn into something really great. I, on the other hand, haven't had great luck on the job...

The Past Nine Months

Hello! I haven't written anything for well over a month. But you know how you get in the groove of the same old, same old? I felt as though there hasn't been a whole lot for me to write about. However, I was struck by the thought today that it's been nine months since we moved already! And what have I accomplished in those nine months? What have I learned? It's been nine super quick months since we quit our jobs, packed up and headed for the big city. :) It's seriously flown by and I can't believe it will be a year in just three short months. I am so thankful for these past nine months. I wouldn't classify them under the "easy" category, nor would I put them in the "happiest time of my life" category - even though I'm thinking you can't really determine what the happiest time of your life is until it's over. But I can say that I have grown, learned and stretched tremendously over these past nine months. I can't believe...

Worry Much?

Wow, time flies when nothing changes, right? I realized this evening that I hadn't posted anything since we got back from El Salvador...over a month ago!!!  Do any of you journal? I started doing this about a year ago...I just started a fresh, new journal since I had filled one up! In my journal I write many different things, but most of the time they are prayers. And this evening, I was looking over my journal entries since getting back from El Salvador, just to see how things had been going. And wow...almost every entry is the same... "Lord, put your hand on the job applications I sent in today...if it's Your will I pray they will see my potential and consider me for the position. Be with our finances this month, Lord." January 12. "Continue to watch over those job applications, Lord. I pray that our finances with be okay for this week - I know You will provide for us." January 18. "I pray ends will meet this week." January 19. "I pr...
