Not Bummed

My last post was titled "Bummed." So this one is going to be the opposite of Bummed! Can we say stoked? Is that a little too 90's (maybe even 80's)? Most of you saw on my Facebook page last week that I got a job...now I didn't just get any teaching job. I feel like I got the most perfect position possible (but I haven't met the kids yet!). I will be teaching at Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton, Kansas. This is about a 40 minute drive for me, however there is quite a bit of road construction so I'm hoping a few minutes will come off once that's finished. The school is literally in a field. The middle school is a short walk through the parking lot (sound familiar?) and the elementary school is just right down the road. There's about 250 students in the high school. I will be teaching Computer Applications, Entrepreneurship, Digital Media and Desktop Publishing. I will also be sponsoring FBLA. I'm pretty pumped! There is another business tea...

...Bummed...

So, someone told me I didn't update my blog as much as they would like. I simply told them there isn't anything going on! But I suppose there is always something going on, right? In good news, Luke started a new job this week! He is now the Nike Brand Coordinator at Dick's Sporting Goods. This job is full-time with pretty good benefits for the both of us. Luke "has" to wear Nike products every day...this morning he left in mesh shorts, a t-shirt and tennis shoes. Only slightly jealous of how comfortable he gets to be! So far, he really likes it. He's busy all day long, gets to interact with customers and also has added responsibilities for all Nike apparel and shoes in the store. I think this position is going to suit his salesman side and his sporty side. His managers have also told him about the great opportunities to grow within the company, so maybe this could turn into something really great. I, on the other hand, haven't had great luck on the job...

The Past Nine Months

Hello! I haven't written anything for well over a month. But you know how you get in the groove of the same old, same old? I felt as though there hasn't been a whole lot for me to write about. However, I was struck by the thought today that it's been nine months since we moved already! And what have I accomplished in those nine months? What have I learned? It's been nine super quick months since we quit our jobs, packed up and headed for the big city. :) It's seriously flown by and I can't believe it will be a year in just three short months. I am so thankful for these past nine months. I wouldn't classify them under the "easy" category, nor would I put them in the "happiest time of my life" category - even though I'm thinking you can't really determine what the happiest time of your life is until it's over. But I can say that I have grown, learned and stretched tremendously over these past nine months. I can't believe...

Worry Much?

Wow, time flies when nothing changes, right? I realized this evening that I hadn't posted anything since we got back from El Salvador...over a month ago!!!  Do any of you journal? I started doing this about a year ago...I just started a fresh, new journal since I had filled one up! In my journal I write many different things, but most of the time they are prayers. And this evening, I was looking over my journal entries since getting back from El Salvador, just to see how things had been going. And wow...almost every entry is the same... "Lord, put your hand on the job applications I sent in today...if it's Your will I pray they will see my potential and consider me for the position. Be with our finances this month, Lord." January 12. "Continue to watch over those job applications, Lord. I pray that our finances with be okay for this week - I know You will provide for us." January 18. "I pray ends will meet this week." January 19. "I pr...

El Salvador: Last Day!

See how quickly the busyness of life sucks you right back in? I completely forgot to blog about our last day in El Salvador! Our last day was different than it's original plan. We completed all the work at the mission church in Ozatlan in one afternoon, where they had said it would take us all three days to do it. I guess 20 people can knock out much more work than they were planning! So we didn't really have much to do this day (but we managed to fill it up!). We started off by going back to the orphanage (which was unexpected!). After saying good-bye to all those girls, we had to do it all over again! While at the orphanage, some of us ventured off to the market in San Miguel. I don't have any pictures of that because it was madness! And if you know me well, I had to focus and breathe deeply just to not have panic attacks due to the crowds and super hot weather!!! In El Salvador, water is generally sold in bags. I paid 25 cents for the two bags Jesse & I are drink...

El Salvador: Day 6

This was probably my most favorite day of all! Why? Because I got to finally see the ocean! I have lived a sheltered life okay? I've never seen an ocean! And what better place to see it than on a mission trip in a foreign country. The ocean was so beautiful. Everyone was laughing at me because I was like a child...I just ran out into the water giggling like a little kid. Then I spent an hour or so jumping into the waves! :) The guys played football on the beach (imagine that!). Milton told us to watch out for jellyfish and not 10 minutes later I saw one...so I just decided to bask in the sun on the beach after that! I loved, loved, loved the ocean and I cannot wait to go back and see it again! Another good thing about the ocean there? They are very modest...we were all wearing shorts and cover-ups over our swimsuits. No half naked ladies on the beach in El Salvador! :) We stopped on our drive to the ocean to take a picture Ocean!!!!! Luke & I in the ocean! :) After ...

El Salvador: Day 5

On Thursday, we switched gears a little. We went from loving orphan girls to evangelizing in a small village called Ozatlan. The church we went to on Day 1 (Strong Tower) has a mission church in this small village. We spent the morning doing different repairs on the mission church such as, filling holes in the roof, putting a door on the bathroom, and changing light switches.  Rachel, Vic & Jesse patching the roof Joe changing out a switch Cheryl talking with the ladies  After lunch, we broke into groups and did a prayer walk through the village. We also handed out flyers announcing our upcoming soccer & basketball tournament in the park that Saturday. We then walked up to the park and just kind of hung playing sports...to see what kind of attention we could draw! After some time, people would stop and watch a bunch of Americans attempting to play basketball with a soccer ball. We got to talk with some local kids that were hanging out also. Prayer walkin...
